Museum of the Renaissance and Resistance

Located in a wonderful neoclassicla villa, the museum has a large exhibitions on all sorts of documents and painting relating to the Renaissance and the Resistance period.

Palazzo Barbaran

Recently restorated and still an impressive sights of Palladio’s art, the palace nowadays houses the Internazionale di Studi di Architettura dedicted to Palladio.

Giardini Salvi

Lovely park that serves as a buffer between the busy Viale Roma and the inner city. Plenty of benches, a little pond, beautiful Palldian houses mirroring in the water and lushy grass underneath shady trees.

Vast park that stretches out on both sides of the Viale Roma with a lot of grass- if anything else.

Teatre Olimpico

Last masterpiece of Palladio finished by Scamozzi, one of his students. The wooden stage has a permanent background of a city that seems to continue for miles because of optical illusion. The wooden ceiling has been repainted with a blue sky and white clouds and make an impressive combination with the rest of the ornamented walls and the long rows of statues above the mounting seats in the semi arena.

Basilica

Located in between two of Vicenza’s most important squares, the Basilica dominates its surroundings. Although the building was alreeady constructed, Palladio put his stamp on it by building an impressive marble wrapping around it, ornamenting the Basilica with colums and arches. One can have a walk around the upper floor and visit the Musea Palladiano that is housed in the largest room of the Basilica. Just in front of the stairs that lead up to the first floor, there’s a statue of Palladio. The Piazza de Biade, the square facing the Basilica, is the sights of open air (theatre) performances during summer. The impressive Torre de Piazzo, the medieval tower connected by arch to the Basilica, is at present wrapped up in green cloth due to renovation practices.

Palazzo Chiericati

The Palazzo houses the Museo Civico at present. Take a seat on one of the benches and have a look at the impressive white stairs, the pillars and the long row of statues on top of the roof.

Villa Valmarana

This 17th century villa complex exists of several buildings and borders on a forest. Inside the villa, one can have a look at a fairly impressive collection of frescoest, including some of the frescoes of Tiepolo.

San Lorenzo

Gothic church dating from the 13th century with a ornamental porch. Inside one can see several sepulchral monuments and frescoes.

La Rotonda

Genius Palladio at his best. Beautiful symmetrical villa with painted ceilings by Dorigny. Scamozzi finished the villa in 1606.
