Become the crew of the late Sir Peter Blake's 1985 Whitbread Round the World challenger, the legendary 'Lion New Zealand'. An unforgettable two night adventure from Auckland to the Bay of Islands.

Leaving the busy Auckland harbour, 'Lion' will sail past Rangitoto, a dormant volcano, across the 2003 America's Cup race course, through the Tiri passage and on to Kawau Island. Overnight in gorgeous Bon Accord Harbour, the barbecue is fired up and there is ample opportunity to head ashore and learn about some of New Zealand's richest history.

Next morning, sail past Maori Rock, Takatu Peninsula, Cape Rodney, Sail Rock, Hen and Chickens and, weather permitting, stop at the spectacular Poor Knights Islands. Take the opportunity to snorkel in this marine reserve recognized as one of the top ten dive sites in the world. For the second night's anchorage, one of the sheltered harbors at either Tutukaka, Whangaruru, Whangamumu or the Bay of Islands is chosen.

On the final day, sail around Cape Brett and The Hole in the Rock (just as Captain James Cook did in 1764) then through the numerous islands the Bay is so famous for. This adventure is more diverse and dynamic than any other in New Zealand, steeped in vast and colorful history, a once in a lifetime opportunity. Your two hour sailing experience starts in the Viaduct Harbor where you meet the professional crew and are taken through a short safety briefing. The yacht then heads out of the America's Cup Village past the syndicates and Super yachts. The sails are hoisted and passengers become the crew, encouraged to take the helm, exert energy on the grinders or simply sit back and enjoy the action as we sail down the beautiful Auckland Harbor.

The America's Cup experience has just got a whole lot better! NZL 40 now has a racing partner NZL 41. Now not only can you experience the thrill of sailing an America's Cup Yacht, you can participate in racing on one. An activity which in the past has been reserved for only the most elite professional yacht racers is now available to everyone keen to take up the challenge.

Your three hour experience begins in the Viaduct Harbor where you will meet the professional crew who will take you through the safety and race briefing. The yachts will then depart through the America's Cup Village and head out past the Syndicate bases and Super yachts where passengers will take their positions for a brief period of practice. Then the experience really begins as the two yachts line up under international match racing pre-start conditions, just like in the America's Cup and compete head to head. You will be involved in the racing, calling tactics, grinding, and even protesting the offending yacht!

Enjoy a two day independent coach tour to witness the underground spectacle of Waitomo Caves and the highlights of the thermal wonderland that is Rotorua.

Highlights include an underground boat ride through the Glowworm Grotto, a visit to an authentic Maori marae for a hangi (feast) and concert and overnight at your choice of accommodation in Rotorua.

Your second day includes entry to a trout and wildlife sanctuary, an entertaining farm show and a visit to the Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve and Maori Arts and Crafts Institute to view mighty geysers and boiling mud pools. The Auckland Explorer Bus is a Hop On Hop Off Auckland sightseeing tour with commentary visiting the "Big 14 Attractions" of Auckland. Buses leave every 30 minutes (hourly in Winter). If you have limited time - this is the perfect way to explore the city. A thirty minute flight by light plane over the sparkling waters of the Hauraki Gulf brings you to majestic Great Barrier Island. After breakfast at a local cafe take an easy half hour walk on tracks and boardwalks past giant Nikau palms and rare native flora and fauna over unique wetlands to the Kaitoke natural thermal springs.

The adventure continues as you drive past native bush and rugged peaks to a private homestead, where you can enjoy a relaxed kiwi style picnic lunch. Travel south from Auckland through the rich farmland of the Waikato on to Waitomo.

Enjoy a guided tour through the long galleries and lofty chambers of the World Famous Glowworm Caves. Laced with myth and legend, Ruakuri "den of dogs" was first discovered by Maori some 400-500 years ago. It takes it name from the pack of wild dogs that used to inhabit the cave entrance way, "Rua" meaning "den" and "kuri" meaning "dogs".

This Ruakuri Experience Tour travels south from Auckland, through the rich farmland of the Waikato and on to Waitomo. Enjoy a 1.5kilometer (0.9 mile) guided tour through the underground limestone passages, where you will see some amazing cave formations. The Ruakuri Cave is laced with myth and legend. The Auckland, Waitomo Caves and Rotorua tour departs Auckland and travels south through the rich farmland of the Waikato region. Stop for a short morning tea break in the historic township of Rangiriri, once the site of a Maori fortification where fierce land battles were fought between the Maori and British troops. From here, continue on through the "Bridge City" of Hamilton. Then onto Waitomo, where the tour stops for a buffet lunch (included if this option is selected) at the fantastic new facilities at the world famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Enjoy your lunch as you sit and relax amongst the trees in the natural setting outside the caves.

After lunch, begin your guided tour through the long galleries and lofty chambers to view stalactites formed over thousands of years by the constant dripping of water. Your tour will end with a boat ride through the glowworm grotto that is illuminated by thousands of tiny lights emitted by the glowworms, suspended from the cave ceiling.

Reboard your coach and continue on to Rotorua. On the way to Rotorua, follow the Waikato River to the Karapiro Dam on Lake Karapiro for a short refreshment break. As you near Rotorua, your coach enters the Fitzgerald glade, a section of the highway where the native bush grows right up to the roadside and the trees form a canopy overhead like a tunnel. The journey finally takes you up over the Mamaku Saddle and descends into the city of Rotorua, where you will be transferred to your hotel.

Onto the famous Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve and the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute.
