After a quick brief on the day's program and a check on the gear provided, you will head north. A 50 minute drive northbound following the Hutt River brings you to the start of the Rimutaka Incline. The ride is graded beginner to intermediate.

The ride focus is a little bit of uphill (to ensure you feel like you are doing something) to begin with, then a lot of downhill to finish. You can do this with the help of the support vehicle driving ahead to wait for you. Once you have conquered the climb you have an adrenaline pumping journey 8 kilometers downhill.

You will be met at the other side with a picnic lunch ready. Then there are a few options for the afternoon. You can walk up to the Punatangarua Pinnacles (as featured in Peter Jackson's the Lord of the Rings as The Paths of the Dead) Or you could enjoy wine-tasting at Martinborough's famed vineyards, drive out to the seal colony at Cape Palliser, visit a ciderbarn, the locomotive museum or just head back to Wellington with a downhill mountain bike from the Rimutaka summit to Kaitoke.

Your full day tour visits 9 different locations (including 20+ scenes) explores Mount Victoria Greenbelt, Wellywood suburbs, Hobbits surfing coastline and the gorgeous native forest park of Rivendell. Our picnic lunch is world famous and you will go home with fantastic photos of scenes.

Your guide will take you into the heart of the Lord of the Rings, with the wealth of their knowledge this brings the following locations to life: Hobbiton Woods, Isengard, Fords of Isen, Village of Bree, Rivendell, River Anduin, Helms Deep, Minas Tirith, Dunharrow.

The day starts with a journey through the outer shire, spending an hour walking through Wellington's greenbelt tracking the many scenes filmed there (including 'get off the road' and 'race to the ferry'). Take a drive through the South Coast to Wellywood, home to the actors whilst filming and the studios. After morning tea at the legendary Chocolate Fish Cafe (not included), drive north of Wellington to spend time amongst forests, mountains and rivers. Our famous picnic lunch will be in Rivendell before we cross the swingbridge for a short native bush walk.

Combine the best of the city with the country...

Head south via Island Bay and follow the coast past Red Rocks to the renowned Karori Rock Lighthouse - One of New Zealand's first automated lighthouses. Then travel to Wellington's fur seal colony where you will make a coastal landing.

From here, track back towards the city over the rugged hills of the south coast. On a clear day this flight offers superb views of Cook Strait and the South Island.

Your Twilight Tour departs about 45 minutes before sundown. Within minutes of escaping the city center you are driving through historic suburbs to the aptly named Happy Valley. Only 5 minutes later you will find yourselves on Wellington's dramatic South Coast. As you look past mountains plunging into the sea you can make out the South Island disappearing into dusk.

You are able to spend a few minutes down on the beach, fossicking through the rocks, searching for dolphins or just taking in the scenery. Next you will drive the coast for a few kilometers before climbing through the green belt for fantastic 360' views of Wellington from Mount Victoria. The city lights are on and Wellington looks fantastic. We will help you get your bearings and tell a few tales before exploring some of Wellington's prestigious suburbs on our way to Otari-Wiltons Bush searching for glow-worms.

After a short forest walk with the light of the worms to guide you, back into the vehicle to be dropped off at you accommodation, a restaurant or maybe the theatre. Picton; at the other end of the crossing is reached after cruising through the picturesque Queen Charlotte Sound in the heart of the Marlborough Sounds. The sparkling clear waters and lush forests of the Sounds is a breathtaking introduction to the South Island.

The earliest name for Wellington, from Maori legend, is Te Upoko o te Ika a Maui. In Maori it means 'The head of Maui's fish'. Caught and pulled to the surface by Polynesian navigator Maui, the fish became the North Island?

Situated at the southern tip of the north island, nestled between a dazzling harbour and tree-lined hills. Compact and village-like in nature this city has everything to offer from the great outdoors to the celebration of nationhood at the national museum Ta Papa, which has a large range of exhibits, some of which are presented in an interactive way.

You will see them all! Either choose the City Panorama option that takes in views of Wellington Harbour and the Brooklyn wind turbine. On a fine day we even enjoy views of the upper South Island and Marlborough Sounds. Or choose the Harbour Cruise that will take you directly over Wellington Airport, enroute for the outer suburbs of Eastbourne and Petone. From here you will track across Wellington Harbour and Somes Island before viewing the city centre including Te Papa and the Beehive.

Get out of the city and into the country, Wairarapa, heartland New Zealand. Your day starts with a drive over the historic Rimutaka Ranges, one of New Zealand's wildest hill roads, and into the Wairarapa countryside. First stop is Patuna Farm Adventures where you choose a morning activity: Horse Trekking, High Ropes, or a guided walk through the Patuna Chasm.

The Horse Trekkers explore different areas of this high country farm on horses to suit your skill level. The High Ropes include the big swing, trapeze and the beam and is a real challenge. The Patuna Chasm is a spectacular limestone wonderland. You can experience the wonder of its fossils, ferns, stalactites, waterfalls, eels, wildlife, wild pigeons and native birds. After your morning activity you will return to the family house for a relaxing homestead lunch.

After lunch a drive next door to wander into a limestone river cave, home to many glow worms. Gumboots and torches are provided for those without their own. Next you will be able to wind down with a visit to a local vineyard for wine tasting. The tour concludes with a drive back over the Rimutaka Ranges to Wellington.
