From North or South, take Highway 400 to Exit 55 (Davis Drive) and drive about 7 km east.
From the South only, take Highway 404 north. Newmarket is accessible from the last 3 exits: Mulock Dr., Davis Dr., and Green Lane. Turn West of any of these exits.
Davis Drive is the main business road in Newmarket.
Do Fairy Lake A large park in the middle of town, this is home to many festivals and fairs, including the annual Shakespeare-In-The-Park put on by a local group called the Resurgence Theatre Company. Locals flock to Fairy Lake on nice days, and even on the not-so-nice days. Nokiidaa Trail System A section of this trail system runs through the heart of Newmarket. This trail is excelent for hiking or biking. The trail system follows the Holland river which at one time was home to a historic plan to build a canal system. Although never operational, the locks that were being built can still be seen at various points along the trail system . Listed below are some maps of sections of the trail system: Heritage Buildings A number of buildings in Newmarket have been designated as Heritage Sites. These sites have plaques to designate when they were constructed and the purpose the building originally served. Many of these sites are close to Main Street. The attached link provides a summary of the heritage buildings in Newmarket.
Buy
Main St. has a range of shops, including clothing stores, a bakery, and a large antique mall. There's even a farmers market that runs Saturday mornings from early May to late October.
If you can't find it on Main Street you can probably find it along Davis Drive, or better yet at Upper Canada Mall (Yonge St & Davis Dr) . There is also a big-box area springing up on Yonge Street just north of the mall.
Eat
Little Caesars Pizza, located on Leslie St. north of Davis Dr. is an authentic Italian pizzaria in the heart of Newmarket's Little Italy district.
All Thai Up - Located on Mulock East of Yonge , great Asian foods.
Get out
Newmarket is relatively close to Toronto, Barrie, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and Markham. Residents also enjoy day-trips to Wasaga Beach and Collingwood.
Newmarket (2006 Population 74,295) is a town located approximately 45 km north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Newmarket is served by three interchanges along Ontario provincial highway 404. It is the seat of York Region. Southlake Regional Health Centre (hospital) is located in Newmarket.
Geography
Newmarket's geographical coördinates are 44.05°N, 79.46°W, and its elevation above sea level is 239 m. It has an area of 38.07 km² and is part of the Greater Toronto Area and the Golden Horseshoe in an area known as the "905 Region" (a reference to the GTA's telephone area code outside Toronto proper).
