Karon Beach
Karon Beach is on the west coast of Phuket, south of Patong and north of Kata.
Understand
Karon Beach is approximately 1.5 km long. Most areas are fully recovered from the tsunami, with just a few vacant lots still awaiting redevelopment. Not many hotels have direct beach frontage - most are across the road (which is not a busy one).
Get in
If coming from the Phuket Airport you can pick up a voucher from the airport transportation booth for a flat rate of 650 baht. The drive is just under an hour.
For those who are price conscious, the transportation booth inside the airport also sells seats on a minibus for 150 baht. The minibus makes several stops along the way to drop off other passengers.
Get around
The fastest way to get around is by tuk-tuk, which are mostly needed to go to other parts of the beach or nearby towns. To get to Phuket Town taxis are available and cost around 400 baht. There are also public buses which leave from Karon to different places every hour for around 20 baht.
See
Unlike the busier and noisier neighbour Patong Beach further north, Karon Beach offers visitor a nice long quiet stretch of sand. Beach umbrellas decked out along the beach are available for rent. Facing west, it gives a beautiful view of the sunset.
Buy
Bars, tailors and clothing markets are plentiful at Karon, either in the main part of town or along the beach front. There are also a number of supermarkets, convenience stores and pharmacies; there's not much you need to travel elsewhere for.
Eat
Karon has a variety of restaurants to choose from including a surprising number catering to Scandinavian tastes. Most restaurants are lined along the beach front road. Harry's Restaurant & Pub, 15/5 Luangpohchuan Road (opposite Phuket Orchid Resort) +66 7639-8258

The Elephant Village was opened in 1973 as a sanctuary for former working elephants. These elephants, through reasons of injury or ill health, can no longer be used as a part of the backbone of heavy work in the jungles of Thailand. Also because of their diminishing habitat, it is now longer possible to return them to the wild. The Elephant Village provides these magnificent creatures with a safe haven, where they may live out their lives with dignity and freedom from fear. Spend the afternoon being entertained by the big tuskers, see them having a bath and how they were once used as a working animal. The elephant show includes demonstrations of training techniques, bathing, traditional roundup methods and the Glong Sabad Chai Ceremony with a war elephant. At the end of the show, visitors will have the opportunity to take a short ride on an elephant for an extra cost.

| Koh Tao and Koh Nangyuan Snorkeling Trip at Koh Samui |
8 hours |
|
On board speedboats you will head out to the island of Koh Nang Yuan, here start your day by swimming, snorkeling or plain old fashioned sunbathing! Actually this island is really made of three smaller ones but they are all connected by a sandbank, which offers an unbroken stretch of clean white sand. Over on the West side the island offers fabulous corals.
Next head out to Koh Tao, which actually means turtle island where lunch will also be served. The island gets this name because it is shaped like one, or so people say! It is also one of the most scenic places for diving and snorkeling in the Gulf of Thailand especially along Aow Leuk or Leam Tien beaches one of which will be visited (subject to weather and water conditions).
For the combination of fantastic scenery above and below the water this tour is simply a must.
