Purmerend
is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The mid-sized city is famous for having a traditional cow market (in Dutch "Koemarkt"). It was granted city rights in 1410, and had at one time a castle called Slot Purmersteyn. From the 1960s onwards, Purmerend has seen major expansions. These expansions added new suburbs, providing homes for people working in Amsterdam. This expansion continues to the present date. | Hof van Marken |
Score 8.325 from 59 reviews | | Buurt II, 15 | |
| Hotel accommodation is available on Marken again !
For almost 35 years the old hotel on this former and authentic island was not in use. Being the only hotel accommodation on Marken, the hotel now offers seven nostalgic hotel rooms, all differently decorated in characteristic ´Waterland´ colours and equipped with ancient elements and splendid stylistic photographs of Marken.
Here you can enjoy the silence, the changeable skies above the IJsselmeer or the surroundings of the island during a weekend or short holiday.
Hof van Marken has become a magnificent location with atmosphere outstanding for receptions, feasts and parties, etc. that can be concluded with an overnight stay.
Historical elements of the old premises anno 1905 are kept in the contemporary and pleasant hotel. A unique historical photo exposition, composed from private collections is to be admired on the walls of the restaurant. The collection, acquired partly by the co-operation of the Marken Museum, offers an image of life on Marken in the beginning of the former century. The bed-and-breakfast character and personal approach makes Hof van Marken a unique location.
