Your journey begins by visiting two of Kona?s gorgeous beaches: Magic Sands" and "Kahaluu Beach". Then proceed south to witness the marvelous scenic view of Kealakekua Bay from the famous "Painted Church" (St. Benedicts Catholic Church). Beautiful, bright, and creative, the ceiling, columns, and walls of this church depict Bible scenes painted by Belgium-born priest Father Velghe.
You will then be transported to Pu?uhonua O Honaunau National Historic Park also known as "City of Refuge". You will be guided through the Royal Grounds and the place of refuge (Pu?uhonua). Often cultural demonstrators will be working and sharing their knowledge on traditional arts and crafts. During the winter months you will often see green sea turtles and humpback whales in Keone Ele cove. It is here that people who violated "Kapu" (Broke the Hawaiian Laws) would seek refuge.
