    Most towns of Sabah are generally safe, but the general rule of not showing off your wealth openly in the public is adviced, most people do not bother with that. You can still shop safely around the towns and the city.



    Sabah is a Malaysian state located on the northern portion of the island of Borneo. It is the second largest state in Malaysia after the state of Sarawak which it borders with on its south-west. It also borders with the province of East Kalimantan of Indonesia in the south. Sabah used to be a British crown colony known as North Borneo prior to joining the Federation of Malaysia in 1963. Currently, its state capital is Kota Kinabalu, formerly known as Jesselton. Sabah is sometimes known as Sabah, negeri di bawah bayu, which means 'Sabah, land below the wind', because of its location being just south of the typhoon prone region around Philippines.

    History

    1500s-1800s

    Sabah or North Borneo was part of the Sultanate of Brunei around the early 16th century. This was during the period when the Sultanate's influence was at its peak. In 1658 the Sultanate of Brunei was purported to have given the north-east portion of Borneo to the Sultan of Sulu as a "gift" in return for the latter's help in settling a civil war in the Brunei Sultanate. In 1761 an officer of the British East India Company, Alexander Dalrymple, concluded an agreement with the Sultan of Sulu to allow him to set up a trading post in the region. This attempt together with other attempts to build a settlement and a military station centering around Pulau Balambangan proved to be a failure. There was minimal...

    Kinabalu Park and Poring Hot Springs 10 hours

    Mt. Kinabalu

    The jagged granite peaks of Mt. Kinabalu (4095m) towers above one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world. Nominated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Kinabalu Park is a natural wonder that offers day visitors a glimpse into the fascinating and often unique world of plant and animal life within the park.

    The montane oak and chestnut forest at park headquarters gives way to lowland dipterocarp forest at Poring on the eastern boundary. Enjoy a short trek through the rainforest and witness life in the treetops as you walk along the 100ft high Canopy Walkway (If closed, it will be replaced with a visit to the Tropical Garden). It is a 30 minutes uphill trek to get to the canopy walkway. Those who find this walk strenous may opt to sit by the springs. Bring a light jacket as the temperature at the Park may drop to below 24 and good walking shoes.

    Island Paradise 6 hours

    Sun, sea and sand is what's install for you today. Take a 20-minute boat ride to the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park for a day of some serious relaxation.

    Swim or snorkel in the blue South China Sea or feed the tropical fishes at the jetty area. Relax or stroll along the beach.
