Playa Gir贸n
The Bay of Pigs (Spanish: Bah铆a de Cochinos, also known as Playa Gir贸n) is an inlet on the south coast of Cuba and the scene of the 1961 Bay of Pigs Invasion. It is located in the province of Matanzas and is west of the city of Cienfuegos.
It is the site of the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion, a 1961 US-supported invasion by Cuban exiles during John F. Kennedy's presidency. The US denied all knowledge of the attack. The intention of the invasion was to overthrow the regime of Fidel Castro. It took place at a beach called Playa Gir贸n. The attack was one of many attempts to overthrow Fidel Castro.This event was an embarrassment to the United States.
