Lantau Big Buddha to Tai O (Mountain Route) Hiking Tour 8.5 hours

Ngong Ping Plateau

The tour starts by taking a ferry and bus to the Ngong Ping plateau on Lantau Island where the Po Lin Monastery and Big Buddha are located. You will have an opportunity to briefly explore the Buddha, Monastery and Wisdom Path before starting the walk.

The hiking tour starts at the Ngong Ping plateau at about 450 metres above sea level and ends at the picturesque fishing village of Tai O at sea level. This hike follows the ridge of the mountains which encircle the Keung Shan Valley. Consequently whilst the views are more spectacular from the tops of the hills, the walking is more strenuous and there are a number of steep hills both up and down.

The highest point is Keung Shan at 490 metres above sea level. Along the route you will pass a monastery with a flying dragon on the hillside behind and the mansion of a rich merchant built in traditional Chinese style with green tiled roofs and a lily pond.

At Tai O there will be time to stroll along the main street lined with traditional shops selling live and dried seafood and photograph the houses built over the creek on stilts.This villages' origins extend over 1,000 years when it was the centre of the salt extraction business in the area. You will return to Central by bus and train.

Tai Tam Country Park and the Dragons Back Hiking Tour 4.5 hours

Tai Tam Country Park and Shek O Country Park are both within easy reach of the urban areas of Hong Kong Island. You will start your hike at Wong Nei Chung Gap on the ridge line of Hong Kong Island and will follow a variety of paths through the heavily wooded Tai Tam Country Park.

You will then pass into Shek O Country Park and up over the Dragon's Back. From the Dragon's Back are dramatic views east to Big Wave Bay, the Clearwater Bay Peninsula and the South China Sea approaches to Victoria Harbour and westward towards Stanley Peninsula and Lamma Island.
