| Lantau, Big Buddha to Tai O (Valley Route) Walking Tour |
8.5 hours |
|
Start this walking tour by taking a ferry and bus to the Ngong Ping plateau on Lantau where the Po Lin Monastery and Big Buddha are located. We spend time to explore the Buddha and Monastery before starting the walk. The walking tour starts at the Ngong Ping plateau at about 450 metres above sea level and ends at the picturesque fishing village of Tai O at sea level. It is mainly downhill but there are a few short uphill sections along the way.
The trail initially follows part of the Lantau Trail which is mainly a natural dirt path. It then follows short sections of public road and concrete paths down the Keung Shan Valley and along the shore of the tidal creek to Tai O. At Tai O there is time to stroll along the main street lined with traditional shops selling live and dried seafood. We also visit the temple of the local God, Kwan Tai. We return to Central by bus and train.
