Your journey begins as you drive from San Jose, through the City of Alajuela, which has the second largest population in the country. The city is proud to display the monument of their national hero Juan Santamaria. While appreciating the history of the monument, not far away is the well-known park of Los Mangos and the old military headquarters, now transformed into a museum and school of technical teaching.

You will then begin the assent to the National Park where you will enjoy an authentic cup of Costa Rican coffee along with a delicious tropical breakfast. You'll feel a change in temperature and the lush vegetation becomes apparent, preparing you for the cloud forest of the Poas Volcano. Enjoy a quick hike on a trail that leads to the Botos Lagoon, where many species of flora and fauna can be observed.

Heading towards the Caribbean zone of Costa Rica, you will have the pleasure of discovering the La Paz Waterfall Gardens. After a short stroll along spectacular trails, you will find Magia Blanca Falls, the largest and most spectacular falls in the area, along with the world's largest butterfly observatory. After a break for lunch, there are more stunning waterfalls to discover, including the famous La Paz Waterfall.

As your journey continues, you will come across quaint towns and farmhouses that are encompassed by beautiful pineapple, yuca, cocoa, and heart of palm plantations. Upon arrival at Puerto Viejo, enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the Sarapiqui River, where you can just sit back, relax and observe the wildlife that surrounds you including monkeys, iguanas, crocodiles, and a variety of birds. During the boat ride the guide will explain about the lifestyle of the friendly people that live at the river margins.

Before returning to San Jose enjoy a drive through the unforgettable rainforest of Braulio Carrillo National Park, one of the most important rainforest reserves for Costa Rica.

Start the day at Buena Vista Rainforest, taking advantage of the volcanic activity. Here you can have a sulphur bath with hot spring water and a mud facial, a Canopy ride or a walk on the bridge. This paradise was built very deep in the forest among trees, rivers, ravines and thermal springs. It is a unique place in the world, where trees and plants have been preserved to maintain the rustic and natural style of the area.

You can find three species of monkeys in the Rincon de la Vieja National Park, the howling monkey (Congo), spider monkey, and white face monkey, along with many other species of mammals such as coatis, ocelots, causeless, and more than 257 species of birds. You can admire some of them as you sit down in any of the five hot spring water pools or while you enjoy a volcanic mud mask on the decks, surrounded by a cold water river that is born at the foothills of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano.

Explore the hanging gardens of the rainforest. It is located next to the Braulio Carrillo National Park in a private reserve of virgin forest, approximately 1 hour 45 minutes from San Jose.

You will take a walk through the trails of the forest and explore in this gondola system a 90 minute trip on the tram.
