The Poas Volcano (altitude: 9631feet) is one of the world's largest geysers with an awesome crater over 1.5 km wide! The volcano is active, but completely safe for observation. This tour begins with a beautiful drive through the lush coffee plantations and flower farms of the San Jose area. In addition to the volcano, the Poas National Park is a 9884-acre reserve with rich tropical vegetation and animal life. The tour includes a hike through the surrounding forest that is teeming with the tropical plant life and exotic birds. The hike concludes at a restful, emerald green tropical lagoon.

After your short hike, the tour continues with a wonderful drive through some of the largest coffee and sugar cane plantations of Costa Rica. Arriving first at Grecia, you will see the famous metal church, a spectacular sight with its rare and beautiful architecture. Next, tour the fascinating craftsman factories of Sarchi, where they build the famous oxcarts of Costa Rica. Splendidly decorated and in various sizes, these oxcarts are treasured worldwide for their unique beauty. You will not want to leave Costa Rica without one!

The Sarapiqui River is perfect for white water for both experienced, and first time rafters! Nature lovers, birdwatchers, and outdoor enthusiasts will especially enjoy the ride through rich vegetation that provides shelter to hummingbirds, toucans, woodpeckers and dozens of other species endemic to Costa Rica, making for a classic tropical river experience.

You will be picked up from your San Jose hotel in the morning, driving for two and a half hours through the bucolic backdrop of Costa Rica's countryside, until you reach the river put-in.

Along the way, you will stop for a hearty Costa Rican breakfast.

After receiving safety instructions, you will board your inflatable raft and begin a memorable descent through the rainforest. A picnic lunch will be served on the riverbanks. Take-out is in the afternoon, and you can change into dry clothes in the private facilities before boarding the comfortable minibus for the return trip to San Jose.

Travel back in time as you are transported to the Costa Rica of the past with the unique presentation at Pueblo Antiguo. It is a multi-media, interactive tour through the history of Costa Rica, performed in the center of a reproduction of the old town of San Jose.
