Bandar Seri Begawan, also known as BSB or just Bandar, is the capital of Brunei.

Brunei International Airport is 20 minutes (B$25) away from the city by taxi.

Boats go to sabah and Sarawak.

Get around

Water Taxi
You can hail a few water taxis at most any dock but the most popular place to find one is a stand behind the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah mall or the canal market.

See

Don't expect much tasteful and stunning archetecture you would normally find in Southeast Asia. Most buildings are just plain and Box-shaped

Do

Visit a mosque they are quite friendly and you may be given a robe on entry.

Bread can be found and even wholemeal bread.

  • Aminah Arif Restaurant. One of a few local restaurants that features the Bruneian delicacy ambuyat and a pretty good range of other food too.

  • RMS Portview, opposite the Yayasan Shopping Centre. The terrace offers a great view overlooking Kampong Ayer, great for cooling down after sightseeing.

  • Tagz Lounge, Sheraton Utama Hotel. The closest you can get to a bar in an alcohol-free country, here you can bring your own booze and buy the mixers. Access theoretically only for hotel guests, but getting in is rarely a problem.

  • Pusat Belia, Brunei's only youth hostel, is the cheapest place to stay in Brunei, at B10/night. It is best to arrange a bed in advance.

  • LeGallery Hotel at Seri - B48/night the hotel looks great!
  • K H Soon Budget hostel 140 Jalan Pemancha, near bus station - a really nice hotel with a good atmosphere. The rooms cost a little more than the youth hostel but are better value if you want to stay out a little later. ie 24 hour reception and good security.   • Empire Hotel and Country Club, . Built at a cost of US$800 million, this hotel is a monument to the extravagance of the Sultan's brother Prince Jefri. Well worth a visit, even if you cannot afford to stay there. Rooms from US$150.
