There are many excellent restaurants in Asheville and the range is wide if shallow (lots of different kinds of food but hardly the choices one would expect to find in a larger town).

Downtown:
  • Barley's Taproom, 42 Biltmore Ave, +1 828 255-0504, . Good pizza (available by the slice) and similar fare.
  • Doc Chey’s Noodle House, 37 Biltmore Ave, +1 828 252-8220, . Su-Th 11:30AM-10PM, F-Sa 11:30AM-11PM. Extremely affordable and consistently delicious Asian Fusion restaurant in downtown. You can get a bowl of Pad Thai and a Tsing Tao here for ten bucks. Many vegetarian options. Very friendly and knowledgable staff. Don't forget to try some of their rice seasoning because you will probably only find it in an oriental market.
  • Early Girl Eatery, 8 Wall St, +1 828 259-9292, . M-F 7:30AM-3PM, Tue-Thu 5PM-9PM, F-Sa 5PM-10PM, Su 9AM-3PM. A menu that relies heavily on high quality local produce, cheeses, and meats.
  • Ed Boudreaux's Bayou Bar-B-Que, 48 Biltmore Avenue, +1 828 296-0100, . Daily 11:30AM-11PM. Bar-b-que with 14 in-house sauces, large vegetarian menu, and stocks 140 different beers.
  • The Hot Dog King, 63 Biltmore Avenue, +1 828 253-0448. Locals claim Anthony Hopkins ate here every day while filming scenes from Hannibal at the Biltmore Estate.
  • Laughing Seed, 40 Wall Street, +1 828 252-3445, . M-Th 11:30AM-9PM, F-Sa 11:30AM-10PM, Su 10AM-9PM (Brunch 10AM-2PM), closed Tuesdays. A moderately-priced vegetarian/vegan restaurant with a variety of international-inspired unique dishes. Jungle-themed elegant indoor dining or great outdoor dining on Wall St., the heart of downtown. Also has a bar downstairs.
  • Mamacitas, 77A Biltmore Ave, +1 828 255-8080. Every day, M-Th 11AM-10PM. Fresh, made from scratch Mexican cuisine.
  • Mela, 70 North Lexington Ave, +1 828 225-8880, . Every day, 11:30AM-2:30PM, 5:30PM-9:30PM. An authentic North and South Indian restaurant that consistently offers delicious food in a beautiful and exotic atmosphere. Full bar available.
  • The Market Place, 20 Wall Street, +1 828 252-4162, . Tu-Sa, dinner starting at 5:30PM.
  • The New French Bar, 12 Biltmore Ave, +1 828 254-5070. Serves a great Sunday brunch with a well known Make-Your-Own Bloody Mary bar.
  • Over Easy Breakfast Cafe, 32 Broadway St, +1 828 236-3533.
  • Rio Burrito, 11 Broadway St and 1950 Hendersonville Rd. +1 828 253-2422. Burritos.
  • Rosetta's Kitchen, 116 N Lexington Ave, +1 828 232-0738. Serves vegetarian/vegan (mostly organic) delicious food in a very unique atmosphere. It's open until 3AM on most nights, and you're sure to find an assortment of interesting characters no matter the time of day. Inexpensive; menu changes daily.
  • Salsa, 6 Patton Ave, +1 828 252-9805. Serves Mexican-Caribbean food.
  • Sisters McMullen Bakery, 22 Pack Place, +1 828 252-9380, . Open M-F, 7:30AM-3:30PM. Carries a variety of delectable pastries.
  • Tupelo Honey Cafe, 12 College St, +1 828 255-4863, . Tu-Su 9AM-3PM, Tu-Th 5:30PM-10PM, F-Sa until midnight. Check this out for some delicious New Southern cuisine.
  • Vincenzo's, 10 N. Market St, +1 828 254-4698, . M-Th 5:30PM-10PM, F-Sa 5:30PM-11PM, Su 5:30PM-9PM. A premier northern Italian restaurant.
  • Zambra, 85 W Walnut St, +1 828 232-1060, . Has tapas and Spanish cuisine. Most items extremely expensive, but very romantic atmosphere.
