Get around
A car is the best option for travel, however if you intend on walking/biking a great place to start is the Monon Trail which was originally a railway through the city and now spans 15 miles from downtown to the northern suburbs.
Car
The general speed limit on highways is 55-70. If there is no posted speed, assume 35. A car is very useful; this city isn't as walker friendly as we'd like.
Note that throughout most of 2007, I-70 between downtown and the east side is under construction in the "Super 70" project, and several of the on/off ramps along that stretch will be closed during various phases of the project. See the Super 70 website for full details of the closures and suggested alternate routes.
