Grand Junction is a city in Colorado, in the United States of America.
Get around
For transportation, there is a local bus system called
Grand Valley Transit. It will get you downtown and to major points of interest. The schedule is rather limited though. There is also a taxi service. However they are the only taxi service in town. So, they are often very busy. The best way to see everything is to simply rent a car. There are several rental offices available at the airport. Some of the hotels have shuttles available to and from the airport and car rentals. I manage the Quality Inn. I am happly to help people get to the airport to rent cars. If you need to make arrangments you can call the desk at 1-800-790-2661.
See
Art on the Corner. Local artists display sculpures. They are literaly bolted down to the sidewalks. The art is changed every 6 months or so. Some of the work is absolutely incredible, but some of it is not.
Do
Grand Junction is a great place for the outdoor enthusiast. Activities range from rock climbing and whitewater rafting, to skiing, golf, and horseback riding. The Colorado National Monument is only a 15 minute drive from most of the area hotels. While in the monument tourists can enjoy a leasurly stroll down scenic paths or take long hikes and do technical climbing. Locals have on several occasions scalled Independence Monument to have a wedding on top. Its quite a climb, about 500 feet. But you don't have to get married to do it. There are several tour guides that can take you in. Kris Hjelle is a guide that takes people canyoneering, climbing and repelling.

Kokopelli Trail runs the 142 miles from Grand Junction Colorado to Moab Utah. Depending on your riding ability it can take 5 to 7 days to complete. There are several sections that can be accessed by country road and 4x4 trail. Parts of the trail are only accessable by bike. The trail is pretty well marked at every 1/2 mile or so. To get there you take I70 to the Loma exit. That's exit 15. Cross over the interstate to the south. At the access road turn right. Just before you get to the weight station you will turn left onto a gravel road. Follow that for about a half mile and you will find the parking lot.
There is also an area called the Bookcliff Mountain range nearby. It is about 10 miles east of town. That is an area known it's wild mustang herd. People can go by jeep or car. Take I70 east to the Cameo Exit. Go across the Colorado River and stay on the main road. You will pass the power plant. After about a mile and a half you will find...
