Distance: 16 NM; Boat trip: 80 min.; Depth: 3 to 24 m; Visibility: fair to excellent; Currents: moderate; Surface conditions: can be rough; experience level: Minimum Open Water Diver certification; Season: all year around.
Sharkpoint was named after the laid-back leopard sharks. Dive in and you will soon find out why this is Phuket's most popular dive site. The reef is covered with soft coral and sponges and is constantly buzzing with fish of every shape, size and color. Squadrons of jackfish and tuna patrol the reef; rays and barracudas cruise by. Currents can be brisk at this site but they run parallel with the reef sections and therefore allow for excellent drift diving. Leopard sharks (or: zebra sharks) can be seen almost every dive.
